VIRTUAL TOUR
Scene One: The Tragic Flaw
ACT ONE
It’s now sixteen years later at Thebes Central. We’re outside the palace, and at the center of the stage is a statue and shrine to Lycian Apollo. It is morning and A Chorus of Thebans enters. [Thebes is Dying] Some of them are suffering from a plague that has recently descended upon the city. They plead to their king, Oedipus, for help. [See With Your Own Two Eyes]
Fortunately, from within the palace Oedipus has heard their lamentations and now enters. [Oedipus is Listening] He tells them he understands their suffering and has already sent his brother-in-law, Creon, to Delphi to inquire about the problem. Oedipus admits that he’s prone to be impatient and that he really hates to wait. [I Hate to Wait] When Creon enters at last , [Here Comes Creon] Oedipus pries the information from him: the plague is retribution for the unavenged murder of Laius, the former king of Thebes. Incredulous that this crime was never solved, [Whodunnit?] Oedipus swears that he will find the killers.
No matter what.
